The Plan. |
Throughout March 2022 the Harbour club will be holding a sponsored read to raise money for UNHCR.
Your are invited to read 26 pages from a specially chosen book. Each page you read represents one million of the 26 million refugees around the world. The book tells the story of a young person in Afghanistan. It raises questions about gender, identity and society that we thought would work really well with your life skills studies from the past term. |
The Book. |
The book we have selected is One Half from the East by Nadia Hashimi, who has very kindly agreed that we can reproduce an extract from her story here for the purpose of our sponsored read.
The sponsorship form can be found here. We hope that after reading the extract you will go on to read the rest of the book and that you will take a look at the other titles in our special Harbour selection put together by our wonderful librarian, Miss Lester. |
The Map. |
To support and encourage us in our reading adventures, Miss Lester will be launching a Read Around the World map on Thursday 3rd March, which is World Book Day 2022.
As your sponsorship comes in, for each page you read Miss Lester will move our flying book from Aylsham High School out across the globe. First stop? Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Destination one: Kabul Distance: 4,801 miles Number of students required for air miles: 186 And after that? Well, let's see how far we can travel together. |
